( CNN) A newly-created committee will be examined by the case of a convicted assassin, after Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens issued a remain of execution on Tuesday in light of new DNA evidence.
“A sentence of death is the ultimate, permanent punishment, ” Greitens said in a statement. “To to be implemented by the death penalty, the person or persons of Missouri must have confidence in the judgment of guilt. In light of new information, I am appointing a Board of Inquiry in this case.”
The execution of Marcellus Williams, 48, had been scheduled for Tuesday evening.
